Chapter 2 Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson the learner will:

  1. Identify the Texas Department of License and Registrations’ (TDLR) definitions of materials, solutions, and disinfectants used for disinfecting and sanitizing cosmetology and manicurist establishments.
  2. Distinguish which disinfectants are approved by the Texas Department of License and Registrations’ (TDLR) and their proper use in sanitation.
  3. Describe the procedures necessary to keep the establishment in a sanitary condition.
  4. Demonstrate how to avoid getting an infection from either a customer or objects in the salon, including objects brought by customers.
  5. Identify steps and procedures that are necessary to maintain sanitary conditions for both the manicure technician and customer during and after manicure and pedicure services.
  6. Describe the procedures step by step to maintain foot spas in a sanitary condition and in accordance to the Texas Department of License and Registrations’ (TDLR) standards.
  7. Show the procedures to correctly clean electric drills and bits.
  8. Demonstrate how to proceed in case of blood or an open wound.
  9. Recognize products whose use and application are prohibited.
  10. Show knowledge of how to keep the establishment clean and sanitized according to TDLR’s rules
  11. Identify the safety standards required by the Texas Department of License and Registrations’ (TDLR)
